Dubbed "the gateway to the San Fernando Valley," Sherman Oaks is located near the intersection of the San Diego and Ventura Freeways. Los Angeles proper is only approximately 14 miles away. Thus, the community has easy access to practically anything beyond its boundaries; though it is in itself fairly self-supportive, with nearby health centers, and police and fire departments.
Aside from shopping and dining, there are dozens of other fun things to do in Sherman Oaks. The October Street Fair has a spring counterpart called the Spring Festival. Held at the same area, the festival is intended to be something that the whole family can enjoy.
Sherman Oaks homes are near the Santa Monica Mountains to the south giving residents an immediate access to nature. This is the perfect place to go to for those who would like to walk a bit underneath the trees. The Mountains have jogging paths, hiking trails, and even walking paths for pets.
The community also has a park nearby. The Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks War Memorial Park can be accessed through the Van Nuys Boulevard or via Hazeltine Avenue. The park features numerous activities for Sherman Oaks residents, young and old. Seniors can also attend year-round activities held at a facility on park grounds. Ball fields, which can be accessed from Magnolia Boulevard, are also part of the park.
